Room description
Here you will find room descriptions for the entrance area of the co-learning space and the area used by the Hylec, including its separate rooms.
The most important points in brief:
- The guidance system in the Hylec has a slightly smaller scale than in the outdoor area. Walk a little slower so as not to miss the 30x30cm attention fields.
- In front of the entrance door to the Hylec and the emergency exits in the Hylec there are 60x30cm attention fields.
- With the exception of the gaming area, all branches are accessible via the guidance system.
- Below you will find descriptions for the separate AV and VR rooms.
Co-learning space entrance area
Coming from EU-Net-Allee, the Hylec can be found on the right-hand side and can be recognized by a large, tactile attention field. Please note that the attention field is located directly in front of a ramp, not a staircase, which seems unusual. The reason is that the door opener of the entrance door is set so that the door opens when you come over the ramp. If the door does not open, take another step back and slightly to the right or wave your right arm slightly above head height.
In the vestibule of the Hylec you will find a water dispenser on the left, snack and coffee vending machines in the middle of the wall in front of you, lockers with PIN codes to the right and left of them and next to them the ladies' toilet on the left, the men's toilet on the right and a wheelchair-accessible toilet that can be opened with a Euro key. There is a Euro key in the Hylec for emergencies.
In the left half of the container building is the Hylec, in the right half are open learning spaces.
In the Hylec
You enter the Hylec through a glass door. You can find it through a 30x60cm attention field. There is a large room with several alcoves and branches off into smaller rooms. You can find your way around using the tactile floor guidance system. The scale of our guidance system is slightly smaller than in the outdoor area. Move a little slower so that you don't miss the 30 x 30 cm attention fields.
Immediately to the left of the entrance, in the first alcove, there is a work area with workbenches, various tools and vacuum cleaners. In the left-hand corner is a steel cabinet with power tools.
On the right-hand side, in an alcove, there are workstations for the gaming computers as well as sofas and beanbags for rest breaks.
The first fork in the guidance system leads to the left into the Hylec office, where the employees' workstations are located.
Further straight ahead you come to the large room, our makerspace. There are material cabinets on the right-hand wall, all labeled with Braille and black lettering (details under Labeling & Inventory), and you will also find a QR code with an integrated NFC chip in the top left-hand corner, which provides you with information about the contents of the cabinets. The QR codes are located approx. 4 cm from the front edge of the cupboards. The other units are arranged in rows so that there are 4 aisles between the units.
The first aisle to the left leads to the emergency exit. To the right of the emergency exit there is a house alarm and a fire extinguisher. In this corridor, there are further material cupboards and a mobile smartboard on the left half-height wall. On the right-hand side, there is a large group work table at the front; further back, there are only the backs of the sewing and embroidery workstations.
The second corridor to the left leads past the same group table to the sewing and embroidery machines on height-adjustable tables. As the embroidery machine can be quite loud, there is an earplug dispenser on the wall. On the right-hand side, height-adjustable workstations are arranged to form a group work area, at the same height as the work tables on the left-hand side. You can also make good use of our seating balls or height-adjustable stools here. The socket cubes in this area are height-adjustable using switches on the wall to the right (next to cupboards FF01 to FF03).
The third aisle to the left starts at the attention field. If you turn right from the guidance system, you will come to the audio/video room; there is a fire extinguisher next to the door. If you turn left, you will pass the height-adjustable group work tables on the left and smaller individual workstations on the right, leading to the 3D printers. The Ultimaker 2+ Connect is on the left and the Ultimaker S5 is on the right on tables that can be lowered. On the left at the end of the table is a 3D scanner, the Shining scanner. In this work area there are laboratory roller stools. Material cabinets for the filament are located at the back of each printer workstation; these are only used by staff.
The fourth aisle in the large maker area leads past individual workstations (right) and material cabinets (left) to the laser cutters on the right-hand side. The two workstations are each equipped with a laser cutter and PC. There is also another 3D scanner here.
In the main room further straight ahead, behind a half-height wall in an alcove, there is a group work area with an electronic flipchart. At the end of the room, the guidance system leads to another emergency exit. In front of this, there is a VR room on the right-hand side and a personal scanner room on the left.
You can find more information on labeling equipment under Labeling & inventory.
Room descriptions separate rooms
Here you will find room descriptions for the Audio/Video room and the Virutal Reality room.
Audio/video room
From the door of the room, go straight ahead to the podcast station. This is equipped with 4 upholstered work chairs and a height-adjustable table. There are soundproof walls in a U-shape around the podcast station.
If you walk past these soundproof walls on the right, you will reach the video area, which is particularly recognizable by the large green screen on the wall. On the wall to the right of the main room, next to a heavy-duty shelf (for staff only), there are two cabinets with audio and video materials including Braille and black lettering.
To the left of the window are all kinds of stands for cameras, spotlights and the like. Next to it in the corner of the room is a height-adjustable table with a photo box.
Virtual reality room
When you enter the VR room, there are two workstations and a smartboard on the opposite side (by the window). Both workstations are equipped with computers that can be used for programming VR applications. The left-hand workstation is equipped with a wired HTC Vive Pro Eye for use directly at the workstation. The right-hand workstation is connected wirelessly to an HTC Vive Pro Eye. This can be used for VR applications as soon as the safety briefing has been completed. The VR Quickstart supports you during the briefing.
On the left-hand side of the door is a mobile, height-adjustable work table for various VR-related applications.
Next to the entrance on the right is a mobile VR station. This is a small table on wheels with a PC that can be moved to the designated VR areas in the large room and used there as a VR station. You can use a complete set consisting of HTC Vive Pro Eye, wireless module and 2 controllers from the shelf. Next to the mobile VR station is a small table with a charging station for all batteries and a UV oven for disinfecting the glasses after use.
The right-hand wall is fully equipped with shelves and cabinets. In addition to the HTC goggles, you will also find VR goggles from Meta (Quest 3) and PICO (PICO 4 Series) for alternative use.
